Since
2000, a group of committed members of the diabetes community in
Egypt, including parents of children with the condition and
health-care professionals, established “Assistance
to Young Diabetics” (AYD), also known as
“Sukar Mazboot”. The ultimate objective of AYD – which
recently won the DAWN International Award – is
to enhance the quality of life of children with diabetes in
Egypt through the provision of structured therapeutic health
education. We, at AYD-Sukar Mazboot are working to create a
network of “diabetes schools” for children with the
condition and their parents. As a result, a growing number of
centers are able to provide diabetes education that focuses on

hotline service in Egypt revolving around the
